Quick answer · Nutrition

Can I change food immediately after homecoming?

It is better to keep the familiar diet and routine at first. If a change is needed, agree a gradual transition with Yuliia and your veterinarian and monitor appetite, stools and wellbeing.

Begin with the familiar diet

Homecoming already changes the puppy’s home, people, water and routine. Ask Yuliia to note the food, portion and usual meal times, and have that food ready. Keeping this stable at first makes it easier to tell whether appetite or stool changes are related to the move itself.

How to change food

  • Do not change food, treats and supplements all at once.
  • Mix in the new food gradually over several days unless the veterinarian gives a different plan.
  • Base the portion on the specific product, age, body condition and veterinary advice, not on breed alone.
  • Monitor appetite, drinking, stools, vomiting and itching each day.

When to stop the transition

Repeated vomiting, watery or bloody diarrhoea, refusal to drink, marked lethargy or pain require veterinary advice. Do not impose fasting or give human medicine to a young puppy without veterinary direction.
