Contact a clinic immediately if
- Breathing is laboured or very noisy and does not settle.
- Gums or tongue are blue, grey or very pale.
- There is weakness, staggering, vomiting, confusion or collapse.
What to do on the way
Stop activity, move the dog to a cool shaded place and call the clinic. Following its advice, wet the body with cool water and provide moving air. Do not use ice-cold water or wrap the dog in a wet towel.
Assessment is still needed after improvement
Complications of overheating can appear later. In warm weather, keep outings short and go in the morning or evening, carry water and never leave a bulldog in a vehicle.
