Quality matters more than quantity
The first months are especially important for meeting people, sounds, surfaces, travel and calm dogs. Present new things at a distance and intensity where the puppy can still eat, play and explore.
Safe experiences before vaccines are complete
A puppy does not need complete isolation until the final vaccine. Assess local infection risk with your veterinarian: observe the world while carried or from the car, use clean private spaces and meet healthy vaccinated dogs. Avoid public dog areas with unknown animals for now.
Pause when the puppy is struggling
- The puppy freezes, hides, tries to escape or will not take food.
- The puppy cannot settle or sleep for a long time afterwards.
- Next time, increase distance and shorten the experience.
