Prevent accidents before they happen
Take the puppy to the chosen area after waking, eating, drinking, playing and excitement. At first, intervals are short. Wait quietly, then reward immediately when the puppy finishes.
What to do after an accident
- If you notice it happening, calmly move or lead the puppy to the correct area.
- If you discover it later, clean quietly with an enzymatic product.
- Do not scold, rub the puppy’s nose in it or frighten with a loud voice.
- Note the time and shorten the next interval.
When a veterinarian is needed
A sudden loss of toilet habits, very frequent urination, straining, blood, excessive thirst, pain or diarrhoea needs veterinary advice. This may not be a training problem.
